What is nationalism? Nationalism is the devotion to the interests or culture of one's nation. It is the love for your country. We can show our nationalism in many simple ways. We don't need to die just to show our love for our country. And as a first year high school student I can show my nationalism by:

Supporting and buying local products.

Buy Philippine made products instead of buying imported or branded ones. Products from the Philippines are much more cheaper than the branded ones. And for me, local products have great quality. Your money is not put to waste when you buy Philippine made products. When you buy the products, it will also benefit us, Filipinos.

Respect the national flag.

Another way of showing our love and respect is by respecting the flag. When the national anthem is being played, we should stop what we are doing, stand straight and sing the anthem or recite the Panatang Makabayan loudly.

Throw your trashes in the right place.

Know where to put your trash. Separate your trashes by nabubulok, di nabubulok and nabibili. By putting and separating your trashes, you did not only show your love for your country but you also help to save Mother Earth and help to promote the Philippines to other countries.

Be loyal.

Even if you are in another country, show the people that you love the Philippines. Show them that you are loyal and proud of your country.

These are the simple ways that I can show my love for the Philippines. How about you, how can you show your love for the Philippines?

"Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first; nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first." - Charles de Gaulle
